The Girl, the Gold Watch & Everything…

Tuesday, October 13th, 2009

When I was younger I was obsessed with this B made for TV move – The Girl, the Gold Watch & Everything.  it was about this detective (I think he was a detective) who inherits this watch that will either a) stop time or b) make you invisible.  I don’t even remember what the rest of the movie was about, but I would daydream for hours about what I could do if I had a watch like that.  When I first watched it I used to think about doing mischevious things, like eating all the cookies, or staying up late to read (ok, clearly I was a good kid).  Then later in college I used to think about stopping time to sleep in or finish the paper I’d waited until the last minute to write.  Even now I still crave more time – wishing the day had 26 or 28 hours.  What would I stop time for now?  Maybe to clean the house, bake a loaf of bread, sew that skirt that’s been sitting next to the sewing machine, or for a little while, maybe I would just sit and watch my kids sleep.  Time is going by so quickly – I can’t believe Aiden is 8 1/2 months old already.  These little ones are so precious.  A quick picture from Delia’s recital and one of Aiden from a couple of weeks ago.  Have a great week!

Where did the time go…

Thursday, June 4th, 2009

I can’t believe how long it’s been since I wrote last.  (Sigh)  Time is flying by.  Aiden is 4 months now – I just don’t know where the time went.  He seems to be literally growing before my eyes.  The first year is so precious.  When Delia was a baby I worked as a teacher and feel like I really did miss so much.  It is such a blessing to be able to spend every day with my little baby boy.  Still, work has taken a toll on me.  I have not juggled things as I had hoped or imagined before the baby.  I keep thinking that something’s gotta give…for awhile it was the house.  Then the chaos overcame me and I’d be cleaning and straightening like a mad woman, while Aiden looked at me from the bouncy seat.  Yes – that is better than going to work every day and saying good bye to him, or worse, having to leave before he even gets up, but still, not really what I imagined.

So, after much thought and contemplation, I’ve realized that I need to rethink and restructure Modern Sugar a bit.  So, change is coming.  Things will be different, but I think in the end the changes will be good for everyone.  As we restructure a bit, clients should see better customer service and more affordable price points.  Our custom designs will be minimal, and eventually we may drop them altogether, but we will have more pre-made options to choose from.  For now, we will no longer have phone support.  Although I realize that being able to reach us on the phone is the reason many of you like us, but it’s nearly impossible for me now and not a great use of my time to try to touch base with 2 – 3 clients a day.

And, I’m also toying with the idea of starting a line of baby announcements – Aiden’s came out so beautifully and friends have encouraged me to pursue that.  It was nice to do something different…and already my head is spinning with ideas.  We’ll see, not sure on that one yet. I have one more project in the works, but that I’ll keep as a surprise.  Here’s a picture of Delia and Aiden at Easter – Aiden kept making the funniest faces – but still they look so precious.
